It seems that the AI hype train does not slow down. In the height of World War II the Nazi propaganda coined the term Wunderwaffe or “wonder weapon”. It seems that AI and LLM’s are today economic Wunderwaffe. From Global GDP growth to the productivity gains, it seems that AI will make us all very rich.

Well, perhaps not all, given what an investigation by The Atlantic revealed about the use of pirated books from the Library Genesis (LibGen) dataset to train their AI models leading to legal action by authors for copyright infringement.

Remember the adverts telling us all that we wouldn’t download a car, so we shouldn’t download a poorly copied piece of music? Remember how we were killing the creative industries by pirating content and that we should all be heavily punished by doing so? It seems that, in this case, cost and time constraints are being mentioned as, not excuses, but mitigating factors. After all, we can’t stop progress, and AI is going to make, some of us, rich.
How long until public libraries are considered a wasteful expense by the “new bureaucrats” and book access is available only through the payment of some “dodgy coins” riddled with inscrutable fees?
Think I am exaggerating? Just look up, while you can, the history of the patent for insulin.
But this wouldn’t be a normal week if there weren’t more news about … you guessed it, AI.
Gartner’s latest prediction is that we are entering an extinction phase for LLM’s. Given the cost of developing new models, and based on previous events, a consolidation seems to be looming in the horizon and we should see it coming very soon.

The same article also mentions that AI will be integrated, into everything (phones, computers, cars, watches, TV’s, …). I can’t wait to have my TV spy on what I’m watching and controlling how many adds I see. Or having my car raise the volume to play me some advertising at every red light. Hey, perhaps I’ll have to wait for an unskippable ad before my “smart watch” let’s me see what time it is.
It really seems like the future is bright and Big Tech will be there make our lives easier, beyond our own comprehension. I’m not sure we’re going to like it, but for sure we will be told how this new shinning feature is making our lives better. Provided that the same Big Tech can at least define new. Just have a look at the article below.

Let’s not worry about though. After all, we’re just here to enjoy the ride.
AI is right now the biggest plagium generator over the world. No more than that. Due that I do not see to thrive for long, as we humans needs the pint of uniqities. Imagine everyone using AI to generate pictures, novels, play games with each other. At some point everything will re-cycle back to the same shape and form of AI answers. that will be boring. AI might be a tool to speed up thing (web search) and fix grammar/code issues, but nothing more. Maybe I am wrong on that, but I try avoid that train.
